Dr. Justin Gohl is Assistant Professor of Old Testament and Scripture at St. Tikhon’s Seminary. He has been teaching at the seminary since Spring ’21, first on an adjunct basis, and then as part of the full-time faculty since July ’24. He teaches core Scripture courses on the Pentateuch and Scriptural Hermeneutics, as well as offering an elective on the Book of Psalms. He also teaches in the Diaconal Training Program at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Philadelphia. Justin continues to teach Scripture as well at the Reformed Episcopal Seminary in Oreland, PA, closer to his current home in the greater Philadelphia area, an institution with which he has been connected since 2014. Justin’s scholarly work has been focused on the retrieval of Patristic biblical interpretation, particularly through the translation of Greek Patristic exegetical works. He has several substantial translation projects underway, which are of immediate benefit to students in his courses, and which he intends eventually to publish, including St. Cyril of Alexandria’s treatise On the Worship in Spirit and Truth and Eusebius of Caesarea’s Commentary on the Psalms. He has a forthcoming translation of St. John of Damascus’s treatise On the Two Wills in Christ, and is a contributor to Oxford’s forthcoming Ancient Christian Study Bible.
